Valentine’s Day

V called in sick, so I got the chance to spend the whole day with her — something a rarity as her work schedule has her weekends diametrically opposite to mine.

Dinner was a nice five course meal at Hannah’s Bistro. I’m no gourmand, but I enjoyed the dinner (and wine and company!) immensely.  A tad above my usual budget range, but well worth it.

Arugula and Sprout Salad — the black olives added a nice salty tang for me

Tuna Tartar — the tuna was super fresh!  I was set for a big let down, but I was pleasantly surprised

Mixed berry and cassis granita — okay, I’m uncouth, but this sort of tasted like a freezee to me

Veal Chop — the veal was undercooked.  I think the kitchen must have been pushed this night, the timing was well off for this course (I think it was a good 45 minute lag between this and the prior course).  Our server did top us off with more wine — the wine for this course for me was a California red (cabernet sauvignon) from the Sonoma Valley that I had been eyeing up as a bottle anyway — so all was not lost.  (Our server had good attention to detail without being overly intrusive, well done)

Ginger cake — I’m not a dessert person, but this was yummy.  The salted caramel sauce did not disappoint.
